Disney Pluto

Posted by admin | Disney Pluto |

Pluto (also known as Pluto the Pup) is an animated cartoon character made famous in a series of Disney short cartoons. He has most frequently appeared as Mickey Mouse's pet dog. He also had an independent starring role in a number of Disney shorts in the 1940s and 1950s. Pluto is unusual for a Disney character in that he is not anthropomorphism beyond showing an unusually broad range of facial expressions or use of his front paws at key points; he is actually represented as a normal dog (unlike Goofy who is an anthropomorphic dog).

This is a very good movie for Disney lovers with children (or real die hards such as myself). Several notes: This is a House of Mouse Christmas Special! If you've never seen the House of Mouse TV show you are likely to feel cheated. Several of the complaints here are that this is just a compilation of old cartoons and some new ones loosely tied together by a weak plot... That's exactly what the House of Mouse show is! So anyone who has seen the show is not going to be disappointed. Second, this isn't Once Upon a Christmas repackaged. None of the three stories from OUaC are even on this program. Last, several people conistantly have issues with Disney previews. True, the previews start but then you can either push main menu or chapter skip, either one of these will get you to the main menu really fast. Sometimes one or the other doesn't work but I've yet to come across a Disney DVD I couldn't skip the previews on. The catch of course being you do have to watch the Disney logo but the previews are so easily skipped I become frustrated with the complaint.

This was very cute. I really loved it. It's a must have in your family christmas dvd collection.

Mickeys magical christmas vcr tape was never received and and i have contacted seller twice now and nothing. i would like this taken care of either with the movie i ordered or a refund so i can order a different movie. thank you

Hello, I am writing this because my kids love this and ask for it (specifically Mickey's version of the Nutcracker). Kids, in general, do not care about whether or not the dvd is truly feature length, they just want to watch it. This is aimed at children. I think we, as adults, would do well to follow their lead in attitudes sometimes. The video is entertaining and has the classics characters from Disney. We as a family love Disney and this video. Merry Christmas!

hello Disney Fans. I am wondering if anyone has ever seen the holiday short about Goofy learning to ski. It was a great little narrated short that I saw when I was a kid. I saw it on television way back when and it was tagged along with a couple of other holiday shorts to a broadcast of the classic "Mickey's Christmas Carol". I have been reading reviews and dvd discriptions on here for an hour and I cannot find anything that mentions this particular short. If anyone knows if it is even available on any of these disney dvd's and if so which one. Please email me and let me know, Thanks. my email address is ryback78@hotmail.com

These Disney VHS cartoons were released in the 1980s, and I fondly remember renting the series many times from the local video shop. This particular tape is focused on Pluto and his exploits with the Disney gang. An excellent collection, which hopefully Disney will release on DVD along with others in the Cartoon Classics series. Until then, look for used VHS tapes in the Amazon Marketplace and auction sites.

My kids are 1.5 and 3 and both enjoy the older Mickey movies. Not sure why but they do. This is nothing like Mickey Mouse Clubhouse which they also love.

This is a wonderful short of classical animation. Disney really did a great job with this short film. Especially with the creativity of bringing back past disney characters to tell the classic tale. There is only one reason I did not give this 5 stars. I had this title on vhs that came with a 45 min short titled "The making of Mickeys christmas carol. I sure wish that film was also put on this Dvd.

This is the exact program that I remember from my childhood, and it even included "Small One" which I have been looking for since my dubbed VHS from Beta copy died. Love It!!!

AUTHOR'S NOTE: While this package consists of several animated shorts, I will be reviewing the featured short, "Mickey's Christmas Carol." REVIEW This is a very good creative adaptation of the Dickens story. Featuring the voice talents of Alan Young, Wayne Allwine and Hal Smith, among others, this film hearkens to the golden age of the 1930's for animated short film. Necessarily shortening and simplifying Dickens' novel and its language, it nevertheless retains a glimmering intelligence and understated sophistication. Additionally, the soundtrack is superb, especially the opening number "Oh, What A Merry Christmas Day." The roles of Dickens' ghosts are fulfilled by Disney characters, and for the most part I cannot complain. Even Goofy as Jacob Marley fits because the creative staff retain the basic original plotline which Dickens created for his character. This treatment also pleasantly undercuts the harder edge of the Marley character by injecting skillful humor into key moments. The only character choice for a ghost I did not like at all was Willie the Giant from "Mickey and the Beanstalk." That character is just too overbearing and lacking in the stateliness I've associated with The Ghost of Christmas Present for all of my life. A very abbreviated appearance by The Ghost of Christmas Yet To Come, here called The Ghost of Christmas Future, is fittingly bleak and may provide the biggest scare of the movie for very young children. That moment of the film is so brief, though, that after a hiccup, it's over. Featuring fairly early animation by the great Glen Keane and even John Lasseter, the current head of Pixar, "Mickey's Christmas Carol" is a classic animated short film of Dickens' classic novel and stands the test of time beautifully.

"Mickey's Christmas Carol" was a hit with our entire family and was watched over and over before, during and after the Christmas holiday. It includes 4 short movies, which was wonderful for the attention span of a 4-year-old. One of the "shorts" was a very old cartoon of Santa's Workshop, but was still fun to watch. I personally love the story of the Christmas Carol in all of its styles. Mickey was no exception. You can't go wrong with Disney!

So much fun to watch again! Someday in the future the grandkids will have a pleasant surprise viewing such a timeless treasure!

My 2 year old daughter loves the old Mickey Mouse movies. This one wasn't exactly the "music" edition we were looking for, but still an OKAY buy!

A friend has this, which impressed me. I own the "Starring Mickey" DVD, and my 2 1/2 year old daughter is fascinated with the old cartoons. They have a charm that rivets her unlike any of the current cartoons or Dora type of stuff. I'm sure that part of the reason is that they are filled with slapstick comedy that isn't considered as "correct" for kids these days --- but wow, Disney sure did know what kids like! The "Starring Mickey" DVD has a scene with Goofy and a piano, and its the first time I've heard my daughter laugh out loud at something she was watching by herself. Fantastic hour long collections, with auto play, gotta love it! And please, people writing about "Treasures" collections or what not -- these are inexpensive DVDs for average fans of Disney -- leave the pricey collections to real collectors, these DVDs are great for the rest of us!

The fact that well-known Disney characters do not appear in many of these is a plus, not a drawback, in my mind. If you want to expose your kids to good swinging jazz music, and classic animation, without character marketing, this is a great DVD to do it. However, parents should note: Daisy Duck threatens suicide, actually putting a revolver to her head, in Donald's Dilemma.

ALL of these cartoons have been released on DVD in Disney Treasures sets, so no reason to get this. Orphan's Benefit (1934) - already on "Mickey Mouse in B&W volume 1" Farmyard Symphony (1938) - already on "Silly Symphonies volume 1" Mickey's Grand Opera (1936) - already on "Mickey Mouse in Color volume 1" How to Dance (1953) - already on "The Complete Goofy" Donald's Dilemma (1947) - to be released on "Chronological Donald volume 3" on December 11, 2007. Music Land (1935) - already on "Silly Symphonies volume 1" Woodland Café (1937) - already on "Silly Symphonies volume 1" Pluto's Blue Note (1947) - already on "The Complete Pluto volume 2"

Most of these shorts I've never seen. This is disney. So I was not disapointed.

When paired with Volume 2, this set provides you with some really good quality Disney cartoons. My family and I will put a disc in and just let it play. The kids laugh all the way through. I own other Disney Treasures sets and would highly recommend them to any cartoon lover.

60 years later it is still as fresh, as fun, as relevant as it ever was! my son and i watch it together and it is just as fun and just as much laughs each time. as opposed to goofy, pluto has "play all" option - hassle-free and user friendly (from where i stand, anyway). we own both 1 and 2 and we love them!!

I am not going to comment on quality of the DVD - it is ***GREAT***, enough said. I would like to warn about what you just may get. Disney Treasures come in tin boxes. These days Amazon is not capable of delivering them without damage. If you getting this product as a gift, or as a collector's item, or simply like to receive your buys in mint condition - shop elsewhere. I had to return Pluto DVD two times, since every time it came all dented ...only to receive another artfully bent tin, along with cheerful assurances from support that Amazon is trying to do their best. On a third strike, I give up. No, I do not make fuss over a slightest ding. Nor it is a single occurrence. Out of 3 delivered Disney Treasures DVDs (Pluto, Donald, Rarities) _not a single one_ came clean. Whether as a single package, or as a part of a large shipment; whether due to inappropriate packaging (soft envelope), or due to packing-in already damaged tin - result is the same. Caveat emptor.

I think that Disney has done an excellent job with Pluto Volume 1 and corrected most of the miscalculations that they made in previous sets. First, they included principal cartoons in Pluto's career that cover cartoons not released under the Pluto banner like "The Chain Gang" (A Mickey Mouse Cartoon), for example. The set also presents a peculiar set of cartoons (The Oscar winning "Lend A Paw", "Canine Caddy", "A Gentleman's Gentleman", and "Pluto and the Armadillo") that are officially Mickey Mouse cartoons. I've seen some of these cartoons presented as either Mickey or Pluto cartoons on both VHS sets and on The Disney Channel. Second, Disney presents the cartoons in chronological order. I prefer this method over the "Best of" collections that were put forth in Mickey Mouse in B&W Volume 1 and the first Silly Symphonies set. Chronological organization of cartoons can best allow you to notice how a character evolves. Third, Disney included the PLAY ALL disc option and reduced the number of silly easter eggs. After a long day's work, I would prefer to just click and play rather either skipping from cartoon to cartoon or indulging in some treasure hunt to find a rare cartoon. Yep. They got it right this time. Let's hope that they finish off this series. This one is the best of WD Treasures collection so far, production-wise in my opinion.

Mickey's faithful friend Pluto is unleashed in this first volume of the celebrated canine's cartoon capers. Spanning the years 1930 to 1947, these 29 classic shorts include Pluto's 1930 debut in "The Chain Gang" -- which was actually his first and second appearance playing unnamed, identical bloodhounds -- and the 1941 Academy Award(R)-winning short "Lend A Paw...

Check out these other great items Disney Lunchboxes.

Two unnamed bloodhounds which are seen in the 1930 Mickey Mouse cartoon The Chain Gang resemble what would in later cartoons appear as Pluto the Pup, Mickey's pet-dog. Picnic, another Mickey Mouse cartoon from the same year features a pet-dog of Minnie named Rover. The same canine appears as Mickey's pet-dog in the 1931 cartoon Moose Hunt and is named as Pluto for the first time. From then onwards, Pluto has joined the Mickey gang as a permanent character.

His first comics appearance was in the Mickey Mouse daily strips in 1931 two months after the release of the Moose Hunt cartoon. Pluto Saves the Ship, a comic book published in 1942, is one of the first Disney comics prepared for publication outside newspaper strips. However, not counting a few cereal give-away mini-comics in 1947 and 1951, he did not have his own comics title until 1952.

Pluto has also appeared in the television series Mickey Mouse Works, Disney's House of Mouse and Mickey Mouse Clubhouse. He also had a cameo appearance in Quack Pack. Curiously enough, however, Pluto was the only standard Disney character not included when the whole gang was reunited for the 1983 featurette Mickey's Christmas Carol, although he did return in The Prince and the Pauper in 1990 and Runaway Brain five years later, and was also spotted in Who Framed Roger Rabbit in 1988. In 1996, he makes a cameo appearance in the Quack Pack episode "The Really Mighty Ducks".
