Drew Carey is the leader of high caliber comedy. The cast of actors who are part of his show make a good thing even better. Carey is truly gifted. He can sing, dance, act and make you laugh so hard you are wiping tears of laughter out of your eyes. He does not disappoint with this collection either. The selection of songs is wonderful and makes you feel as if you have been treated to a night on Broadway. The very moving "Since I Gave My Heart Away" is the only departure from comedy and laughter, but still wonderful in its own right. The entire show is pure joy, a true delight. Julia Louis-Dreyfus, long established comedienne (Saturday Night Live in the early-mid 1980s and later "Seinfeld") is at her peak performance on this one. She is an extraordinary singer which, surprisingly exceeds her comedic ability, which is quite high. She belongs on Broadway! Brent Spiner also adds fun and laughter to this ensemble. As for Drew, let's raise our glasses to Drew Carey! He can sing, dance and act and he is one of the FUNNIEST people I have ever seen! He is brilliant! Nobody could have done the role of "Toymaker" as well as Drew Carey. I think he is a kind man at heart and his gift of laughter has proved that many times. Just get this collection. You will be glad you did. In addition to laughing so hard it hurts all over, you will enjoy the music as well. It's a win-win deal, so just go get this!

I know what you're thinking: Stupid concept, a cast of "TV actors" led by Drew "no one asked you to sing and dance on your show" Carey. You probably think you're too good for this movie. And maybe you're right. The script was lame, the production was stinted and Wayne Brady was wasted as "The Magician's Son."But...and this is the part where I wow you...none of that matters because this CD is wonderful. The songs by Stephen Schwartz ("Pippin," "Godspell") are beautiful and worthy of any Broadway hall. "Since I Gave My Heart Away" is touching and sad. "Just Because It's Magic" is charming and witty. And the opening number "Toys" is an expertly constructed tapestry of...you know, singing. And what of the performances? Terrific. Julia "Elaine" Louis-Dreyfus proves that singing is her forte, Brent "Data" Spiner steals the show as Stromboli, Usher (who does not appear on this CD but did on TV) enchants and seduces (not that way) as the Ringleader of the Roustabouts or whatever the heck he is.And Drew? Look, I like Drew's voice. I think he moves very well for a big guy and his voice, though not expertly trained or as strong as most, is sweet. And as the kind-hearted and simple toymaker, his voice seems oddly appropriate to convey those feelings. In conclusion, ladles and jellyspoons, don't hurt yourself watching the movie, just buy the record. Partly because Stephen Schwartz is a brilliant songwriter but mostly because I'm looking for other members for my "Drew Carey Should Make Another Musical Club" Or the DCSMAMC as I call it...Not really.

This soundtrack is absolutely fantastic. I originally got the movie because I am a HUGE Drew Carey and Whose Line fan (I heard Wayne Brady would also be in the movie) Well, let me tell you, I never expected it to be so wonderful, but it blew me away. The songs were so wonderful, there were many upbeat songs that just got stuck in my head, like "Just because it's magic", "Pleasure Island", "And Son", & "Toys". Then there were some beutiful songs in the movie as well that truly moved me like "Empty Heart" & "Since I Gave My Heart Away"(Which I might add had me in tears the first time I saw the movie, it moved me so much). There is a little bit of everything for everyone on this soundtrack....which is why I had to have it. This CD is not like other cd's you'll buy, this is just normal actors, (and some talented pro singers, Usher and Sonya Isaacs)having fun adn sounding great! I honestly never expected Drew Carey to sound so good, but he kicks butt on this cd!!!! It truly is magical adn is a must have. I can't keep the music out of my head, I find myself humming the songs now and then.....truly worth it. :-D

Wow. When I heard Geppetto was on ABC's Wonderful World of Disney, I decided to tune in so I could laugh at Drew Carey making a fool out of himself. However, the more I listened to the music and the lyrics, I realized there was actually something valuable here. Of course, Julia Louis-Dreyfus really does make a fool out of herself with her ridiculous accent and hideous singing (not that Carey's is good, but it's tolerable). The real strength of this show lies in the performances of its supporting players. Brent Spiner is phenomenal as Stromboli (unfortunately he only sings one number), and Rene Auberjonois does a fine job as well. The music itself ranges from passionate and moving(Empty Heart and Since I Gave My Heart Away) to upbeat and playful(Bravo, Stromboli! and satisfaction Guaranteed). I recommend this underappreciated musical to anyone looking for a show with great music without the heavier social implications of Rent(not that there's anything wrong with Rent, but I wouldn't recommend it for my five year old). The movie is also worth getting, especially to see Brent Spiner do some funny things and to see how funny Drew Carey's hair looks.

We are all enjoying this cd in the car. My 7-year old son is requesting track #5 "Just Because It's Magic", #7 "Bravo, Stromboli", #9 "Satisfaction Guaranteed" and #11 "Pleasure Island". My four-year old daughter LOVES "Toys". It is a nice switch from N'Sync every minute (nothing personal) and it's great to hear the kids singing the songs in the back seat!

Average Rating:

No matter whether Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Drew Carey can actually carry a tune (or the folks at Disney waved a magic wand to extract such confident, energetic performances), the soundtrack to Geppetto sparkles with theatrical grandeur and a swirly, twinkly, spring-in-your-step sound...

Reviews

Pinocchio is the ideal Disney Character that should be in everyone's heart and an All-Time Favorite! The music throughout this animated film is a delight and remains with you, forever, especially, "When You Wish Upon a Star."

Pinocchio: Original Motion Picture Sound Track. The product was just what I ordered. It arrived quickly and in good condition.

It had been a long time since I'd tried to find the music from Pinocchio, but I finally found it here; on Amazon. Thank you.

This recording is the best original soundtrack version, in my opinion. All the nuances of the original are preserved. Jimminy Cricket (Cliff "Ukelele Ike" Edwards) is at the peak of his game, especially in "When You Wish Upon A Star." His rendition of a single word, "STAR" is worth listening to in the piece!

In 1992, when Pinocchio was given an all new restoration for its theatrical release, Disney discovered the original music masters in their vaults. (No, I don't mean the vault where Disney DVDs go when Disney decides to deprive our children of emotional milestones.) Thought lost for over three decades due to a failure to properly label and catalogue them, they were digitally restored and remastered and released on CD and audiocassette, allowing the public to hear the beautiful musical score on its own for the first time ever. This soundtrack, like the film's many video releases, has been taken out of print and brought back into print on several occasions. Currently, the soundtrack IS out of print in North America, as are many other of the Disney soundtrack reissues from the 1990's. However, in the last couple of years, Walt Disney Records and EMI Records in the UK have since reissued several of these soundtracks overseas, including Pinocchio. According to the copyright dates on this package, this particular CD master was created in 2002. Having heard the 1992 CD, this new release seems a bit cleaner to me, but I can't really confirm if this is a new remaster or if this is just a reissue of a previously copyrighted package. Whether this is cleaner than the 1992 CD, the sound quality is definitely superb for recordings that were over fifty years old at the time the digital master was created. There's a minimum amount of noise and some of the limitations of the original elements present themselves, but this is likely the best this soundtrack will ever sound, and frankly, it sounds amazing. The packaging for this 2006 UK release is also nicely done. The cover is basically a square reproduction of the 1993 VHS release cover art, which I always thought was very beautiful and classy. The image that shows through the clear plastic tray depicts the scene with the Blue Fairy and Pinocchio in Stromboli's cage. The booklet includes lyrics, photos, and a short essay on the soundtrack's restoration. The soundtrack to Walt Disney's timeless classic Pinocchio is an incredible listening experience for fans of the film, Disney fans, and soundtrack fans alike. With an Academy Award winning score and the iconic Academy Award winning song "When You Wish Upon A Star," any sonic imperfections brought on by the age, limitations, and physical properties of the original recording materials can be overlooked thanks to careful restoration and remastering and the sheer gorgeousness of the music itself. And despite being an import, Amazon's price of 13.99 is a steal for classic Disney music.

Average Rating:

This 1940 soundtrack earns a spot on any essential-Disney list if only for the fact that it introduced "When You Wish upon a Star," sung by Cliff Edwards, whose voice has become ubiquitous in the 60 years Jiminy Cricket has been in movies and educational films as well as on TV shows...

I remember first watching this movie when I was seven years old...or eight. I did like it, although I did not really understand it (I was a little kid and I never understood movies as a little kid). Now at the age of 14, I got reunited with it. Sadly, I forgot how I did. When I finally recieved the opportunity the watch it for the first united time, I was so impressed and pleased... with everything! The acting, the singing, the music, everything!! Drew Carey, especially, did a fantastic job playing Geppetto. When I first saw him in the film, I was like, "OH MY GOSH" For a comedian to play a serious character with a beautiful singing voice, he did a wonderful job. He looked good, too. To see how I feel about him now, you'd think I'd have a crush on him, which of course I don't. And it wasn't just Carey who was fantastic, it was everyone else as well. Julia Louis-Dreyfus better work her voice because she can sing! And Brent Spiner, oh he can DEFINITELY SING!! He is a fantastic opera singer and actor. Did I mention that he has a cool accent? And the famous Pinnochio himself, Seth Adkins; he was wonderful. I really liked that he was chosen to be Pinnochio because he had so much energy and he sounded just like the original Pinnochio himself! And Usher, my buddy, he can really, really sing! The superstar sings like an angel! All of the songs were just incredible, especially the last song, "Since I Gave My Heart Away". I felt like crying, but I ended up holding it in. I will admit that I was a little sad...until the happy ending part came. I would recommend this movie to family and friends...and anybody who is willing to open their eyes to the valuable lesson that they can learn from this fantastic experience. All you jealous people and haters out there, let me tell ya'll something. Everyone, including the crew, did a spectacular job with filming this movie. I don't think ya'll have any idea how much effort and work everyone put into this fantastic film. And lastly, don't look at how bad or good a person can sing, if they couldn't sing, then they wouldn't be even be in the musical.

I guess you can save your money and rent it. It is a theatrical loose re-make of animated Pinocchio, sanitized for political correctness. There are very few dances or songs worth mentioning. The scenes of the town with perfect made-to-order children and Pleasure Island are unbearably long. I am not sure what ages this film is targeting: it is hard to develop any affection for the characters, any teachings dilute in the multiple dances and characters.

I love the movie, which is why I bought it, not knowing I couldn't play it on my DVD player. I didn't see or understand afterward the region2, deal. So I have a DVD of a movie I loved, and can't watch it. They will not accept it back as I had opened the package.

Geppetto, in no doubt, has to be one of the worst films of all time. For example, Seth Adkins, CANNOT act. "I'm not a puppet, I'm Pinocchio!" How annoying was that? And his makeup sucked so bad, that instantly you could tell that his face was obviously painted with lines. Drew Carey(Geppetto) sings the most retarded songs ever sang, and his singing voice is like listening to a thousand sharp nails scraping down a blackboard. Although, the song "Since I gave my heart away," was the only good thing about the movie, and that song only appeared at the end of the movie. People are right: there is a light at the end of the tunnel. However, I would recommend this movie to children from the age of three to five, unless of course, if their blind. Hope this review was helpful for you.

GEPPETTO is an interesting musical spin on the well-known tale of PINOCCHIO. Stephen Schwartz delivers a handsome-if average score, with fine performances from Drew Carey and Julia Louis-Dreyfus in the lead roles. GEPPETTO wisely doesn't try to emulate Disney's landmark 1940 animation version of PINOCCHIO, but instead retells the tale's events from the perspective of Pinocchio's loving creator and father Geppetto. Julia Louis-Dreyfus plays the sparkling and eccentric Blue Fairy, with Seth Adkins as Pinocchio. Among the supporting cast are Broadway talents Brent Spiner and Ana Gasteyer. Popular singing star Usher also appears in the "Pleasure Island" scene. Stephen Schwartz provides the score which features the catchy "Just Because It's Magic". Drew Carey (who also served as the Executive Producer) has a warm and winning singing voice, and is just about perfect in the title role. A great original musical from Disney.

With Geppetto, Disney takes a different, live-action spin on the Pinocchio story it immortalized in animation in 1940. Yes, there's still the wooden boy with the nose that grows when he tells a lie, but here there are no singing insects (and only a bit of whale), and the focus is on the toymaker, not the toy...
